Licensing - 'Active' users vs Inactive users

Post by UniMatrix »

Hello,

As a user of VBR I am currently looking into Veeam Backup for Office 365 and wonder about licensing.

The Veeam Calculator gives about 250 active users, which seems about right, however there are many more (licensed) users, like people that have left and are put on (education) licenses that are free to us, so their data is still available.

Will all that data be backed up and we will be able to restore this?

Say someone is 'Active' and becomes 'Inactive' in the eyes of Veeam but active users is still 250 (replacement for instance), can we still restore the data of the user that became inactive?!

I'm confused about this licensing... :D

Veeam cannot know, what you see as active or inactive.
All user mailboxes which are licensed in exchange online are „active“ for veeam. Veeam will backup them if your job is configured todo so.

If they are backed up, they will need a vbo365 license.
You must either exclude the user from all backup jobs (also sharepoint, onedrive and teams) or better, convert the user into a shared mailbox instead giving him a license.

After 31 days without any new backup, or after 31 days of the conversation to a shared mailbox, the license will be free to use for another user. Backup data will not be deleted.
