Long time for first full

Post by matteu »

Hello,

I would like to know what are the solution to get the first full faster than I have now.

Arround 500 users

The data to backup are arround :
17To exchange
10To OneDrive
5To Sharepoint + Teams together

Today I have an all in one server (8CPU + 32GB RAM) and Object storage on premise with object first.

If I run only the onedrive job it does arround 1.5To/Days only. The WAN connection can handle more for sure.
Is it something "normal" ? Because I will have to wait 3 weeks for the first full with this speed :(

I know there is Microsoft throtling. I would like to know if I build 2 or 3 others proxy, and then remove them to come back to all in one, this could help me to speed up the full ?

Hi Matteo,

Performance-related issues must also be analyzed by our support team. We will not be able to comment on what is happening with your tenant.
Please open a support case and provide me with the case number. Thank you.

Adding more proxies will not necessarily make backups faster, since Microsoft throttles API calls per tenant, not per proxy.

Our support team will analyze the log files and tell you whether everything is expected, or if there are options to improve backup speed based on whether you are being throttled or not.

Best,

Hello Matteu,

From my experience, one thing that helped me in the past to reduce the throttling was this option here: https://community.veeam.com/blogs-and-p ... ttling-720

It kind of doubles the download speed for that number of days. I would suggest 30 days for you; that should be good.

Also, you can run Exchange with OneDrive, and Exchange with SharePoint with no download speed reduction, looks like they don't share the same throttling. But do not run SharePoint with OneDrive; they share the throttling (as per my experience, I can be wrong).

Hope that helps.

@flavio.santos

Thanks for your message.

Yes, Exchange throtling is disabled for 30 days.
And yes, Exchange and Sherepoint/OneDrive doesn't seem to share the same limitation as mentioned here : https://bp.veeam.com/vb365/guide/operat ... tling.html
