M365 data encryption with Customer managed key

We want to encrypt our exchange online data with Azure customer managed key: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/micro ... -worldwide
Is such an encryption a problem for Veeam M365 backup or am I able to backup and recover this data? Am I able to restore such encrypted data to other locations except the original location? To an onPrem Exchange server for example?

Hi sandsturm,

We tested it a few years ago - data encrypted with Customer Keys is backed up and restored with no issues. When restoring encrypted items to a different location, I believe you won't be able to read the restored encrypted data, but this needs to be verified as I'm not 100% sure atm.
