when i browse the latest backup using Veeam explorer for Exchange all the users have empty "contacts" folders.
Is there a setting or a filter somewhere that could be on? Why would the contacts folder be empty for al the users when browsing the backup . ?
Any ideas?

If it is snapshot, then there is an issue. You can exclude contacts (and calender) from the retention but not from the backup itself, so please create a support log so it can be investigated.
