Modified OneNote Notebooks not backed up

Post by mreay »

Hi,

Veeam is not backing up changes made to OneNote Notebooks stored in OneDrive. We have found that while all user's Notebooks were captured during our initial OneDrive backup, no changes to these files have been captured since. This seems to be because when a change is made within a OneNote Notebook the Modified field for the file in OneDrive does NOT update, which Veeam seems to look at to determine if the file needs to be backed up or not. Microsoft have advised us that this is "by-design" and that changes made within Notebooks to do not affect the Modified date in OneDrive. The modified date for these files is only changed if you make a change the file itself in OneDrive (i.e. renaming the Notebook). Other files such as Word and Excel documents stored in OneDrive do not operate this way. The Modified field in OneDrive also seems to change if a Notebook is closed and reopened, however this doesn't help us much as our users shouldn't to have to reopen their Notebooks every time they make a change.

Hi Michael,

First: Welcome to the forums.
Second: Can you please create a support call around this and post the case ID here. This could be a bug we need to work with so I would like to get it to the official channels asap.

Thanks
Mike

Michael,

We have tested the described scenario and everything goes smoothly with all the changes successfully backed up and restored.
When checking your support case, I noticed that our engineers are not able to reach you for a while. If the issue is still relevant, please provide us the logs for further investigation.

Thanks!
