move the server

Post by mrshahin »

Hi guys,
I want to move our VFO365 to a new server in a different domain, the Object storage repositories are all in blob storage in Azure.
can someone direct me to a document how to move this server? should we just install the VOB on a new server and reconfigure storage repositories? or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks

Hi Pietje

Please see our kb article. It explains how a server migration is done:
https://www.veeam.com/kb2649

If you have additional questions, let me know.

Hi Fabian,
I just check the VOB and it looks like that it has some old jobs (are disabled) that point to the repositories that are on a SAN and they must be also moved to the new server.
I looks like that everything must be done manually so let's hope everything goes well :)

Hello Shahin

Yes, for now it‘s a manual process.
We are looking in to optimizing the process for future versions of VB365.

Hi Fabia,
The old server has the version 6.1.0.438 P20221215
Can you please tell me how I can download the same version or newer then this one? When I log to Veeam site there I can download VOB 365 Test version.

Thanks

Hi Pietje

You can download the test version. It contains the full product.
The most current version is v7 and can be downloaded here:
https://www.veeam.com/backup-microsoft- ... nload.html

The most recent build is always listed here:
https://www.veeam.com/kb4106

Please read the release notes before updating.

Hi Fabian,
So I have to download the test version and also request a key and after the installation and configuration is done we can use our own licenses, is this correct?

Thanks

Hi Pietje

You can download the test version and use your own license key for the installation.
Then migrate everything to the new server as stated in the kb article.

Hi Fabian,
I came accros a problem when try to add our Organization to the new server. The old server has auxiliary backup configured for our Azure this has done by one of the engineers at Veeam support, and it looks like that we cannot anymore use the basic authentication and we have to use the modern authentication when adding the our Organization to the new server.
Any suggestion on how to do use the exsiting auxiliary backup application on the new server?

Thanks

Hi Pietje

Run your backup jobs without additional backup accounts. If you see throttling issues, you can create new applications.
Adding Applications

But I recommend to involve Veeam support again if you face throttling issue (Error Code 429).
Too many of this application may lead to bad backup performance.

Thank you for your reply,
We have added the Org to the new server and created new object storage that points to the same Azure Blob storage and to the same folder as the old server. Now when create a new backup repository get the message that this repository may already be in use with other backup poroxy, click yes if you want to use it anyway.
what should we do here? can we use it anyway? does the mailboxes will get again fully backed up?

Thanks

Hi Pietje

You must make sure, that the original VB365 server does not access this Azure Blob Storage. Best to remove the object storage repository from the original server.
Then you can add the Azure Blob Storage to the new server and say yes to that question "this repository may already be in use with other backup poroxy, click yes if you want to use it anyway". This will let the new VB365 take ownership over the backup data.
Then start a manual synchronization of the object storage repository.

All those steps are explained in the kb article I shared in my first comment in this topic:
Migrate Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Server - with an Object Storage Repository - https://www.veeam.com/kb2649
does the mailboxes will get again fully backed up?
Also explained in the kb article. In the first note box :)

"If the steps below are performed correctly, the first run on the new server will be "incremental." The UI will show that a full is occurring, but only incremental data will be transferred."
