Moved existing backup to another Veeam for Office 365 server
Hi.
We have a customer which is running Veeam for Office 365 backup, but want to outsource this to us.
We have a Veeam for Office 365 installation running for other customers.
Is there any posibility to copy the existing databasefiles from the customers installation to our server - and continue the backup there - so that we have the possibility to restore backups which was done by the customers installation?
Or do we have to start with a new backup regime?
If so - how can we access the old backups in case of the need for restore?
Regards
Tore ML

Re: Moved existing backup to another Veeam for Office 365 server
Hi, this is possible.
- Make sure no backup job is running on the Proxy, then stop Veeam Backup Proxy for Microsoft Office 365 service.
- Robocopy the content of the Backup Repository to a new disk/location that is attached to a new Remote Proxy.
- Reconfigure the backup jobs using the repository in question and point them to a different, temp repository.
- Afterward, delete the original Backup Repository from the VBO365 console.
- Add Backup Repository from a new Backup Proxy.
- Reconfigure backup job to use this new repository.
However, I would advise asking assistance via support to do this to make sure all goes well.

Re: Moved existing backup to another Veeam for Office 365 server
Maybe I was not clear enough.
Lets say that the customer have a Veeam O365 installation - A
We have a Veeam O365 installation - B
We would like to take the backup archive for installation A - and copy them over to a new repository on installation B.
We will then connect installation B to the customer tenant - and configure a new backup using the new repository on installation B with the old backup archive.
Installation A will not be in use any more.

The process would be the same, you'll have to move the customer's database to your installation.

Re: Moved existing backup to another Veeam for Office 365 server
I want to add an experience that i have to make sure the procedure is correct:
1- Backup a Organization with one VBOServer (all in one solution) pointing to D:\Backups as a Repository;
2- Stop VBO365 services and did a Backup Copy from another VBR, installed on a different server. VBO365 VM was presented as a Managed Server on this VBR;
3- I sent the Backups to Tape, using a File to Tape Job;
4- Restore the Files from Tape to another area on VBO365 Server (J:\BACKUPSFROMTAPE)
5- Start the VBO services
6- Open the console, edit the Backup Job, pointing to the new area that i copied the files (J:\BACKUPSFROMTAPE)
7- As soon as I point the Backup Job to another Repository, it shows a message that maybe there will be a Full Backup. I click to start the backup.
8- Remove the old repository (D:\Backups)
9- Right Click on the Backup Job and choose the Restore from previours restore points. However, it shows only the new backup that was run on step 7.
How can I see the previous restore points on this new repo (J:\BACKUPSFROMTAPE)?

Marcio,
Right-click on the organization and run the restore, you will be able to see all of you data.

Re: Moved existing backup to another Veeam for Office 365 server
Hi Mike,
It didnt work. I have already done this on another POC, but I was using a Object Storage as a Repository. It works beautiful. But from a Disk Repository, it didnt work same wasy (at least for me). Are there any additional steps that is missing on my procedure above?
Thanks,
Marcio

As far as I am aware this should work. Please create a support call. Maybe something has missed but I can't think of anything in the procedure at this moment

Re: Moved existing backup to another Veeam for Office 365 server
Hi Mike,
Sorry for the confusion. I was doing a Tape Restore and it was probably not restoring all necessary files. I did a simple copy+paste to another folder and it works beautifully. Then, I did the same procedure of restoring from tape, taking care that all files were really restored and it works fine too. Sorry for the long thread about this.

@eisback I’ve merged your post with the existing topic around this. Please review the topic on how to do this. Thanks.
