MS365 - multitenant restore portal

Post by raffapol » 1 person likes this post

Hello forum,

I'm trying to set up a multitenant restore portal as Service provider that could serve multiple organizations.

Thanks to support I was redirected to the useful section of official guide clarifying the steps:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... le_tenants

and I found an unofficial post here:
https://www.backupbros.com/2022/05/13/h ... providers/

(it's the v6, but the point is the same), beside than a useful video from Spiteri:
https://youtu.be/aGuCx929VNQ?feature=shared

In all of them, although, I miss a couple of points:
- Application ID on General Options --> Restore portal : does it mean that our Service provider company must have a MS365 organization? Of course I can't share the app from a customer to all others;
- Powershell scripts to ber run on tenant side: should the customer have a server inside his organization to run that scripts?

Thank you for supporting me.
Cheers
Raff

Hello Raff

You only need the app created in a single Azure tenant. A M365 subscription is not required.
- Powershell scripts to be run on tenant side: should the customer have a server inside his organization to run that scripts?
It can be run on any computer (server or workstation) which has the Azure Active Directory PowerShell for Graph module installed.

Hi Fabian,
I appreciate your reply. This means that Service provider doesn't need a MS365 subscription, but does need an azure subscrpt, correct?
Thank you, really appreciated

Any chance of this whole process (for multitenancy) being a bit simplified in the next version?

@raffapol
I need to check the requested information with the team. It seems, there may be requirements for the Azure tenant with the restore portal application.

After discussion with the team, I tested the deployment myself with placing the appliance in a new/empty Azure Tenant. The Azure Tenant for the application registration does not require any Azure or M365 subscription.

@DanielJ
Nothing on the roadmap for next versions as far as I see. A global administrator in the customers Tenant must give the application permission to be used in it's tenant. Or end users won't be able to use their own login accounts to access backup data.

All right. What would I need to do when it comes to this "app created in a single Azure tenant"? We have nothing in Azure, but we would like to get the self service portal running for those of our VB365 customers who want it.

You should subscribe a free Azure tenant where install the App needed for multitenancy
