Multible MBX restore to On-Prem

Post by dcop »

Hello
Does anyboby have expierence by restoring multible (bulk) mailboxes to an Exchange On-Prem server? How long does it take for x mailboxes? Is there a limitation or any considerations?

Hello dcop

I assume the question is when Exchange Online is offline or not working anymore and you need to recover to an onPremise location?
I suggest to run a test restore and measure the time and to prepare yourself for this use case.
Bulk restore to other locations must be done by PowerShell. The UI will only allow bulk restore to the original location.

If the question is for an Exist strategy from Exchange Online, I would consider using a Exchange hybrid configuration which will allow you to "move" mailboxes from Exchange Online to Exchange onPremise.

Hello Fabian

Thanks for your reply and information.

Your assumption is correct. Restoring of a single mailbox worked fine in that manner. But as you describes, UI does not provide bulk restore to a different location. Nevertheless doing that by PowerShell would take some time too...
