[MERGED] Feature Request: Move chains between Artesca object storage
Hello,
In the near future we will move from Wasabi to Artesca. We have dozens of customers with an enormous amount of data to migrate.
I logged case 07892381 to ask for steps on how to do this, but this is currently not supported. They referred me to this forum for a feature request.
So hereby I request a feature to move data between object storage buckets in Veeam.
Kind regards,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen
Yes, the request is known to us. I merged your +1 with the existing topic.
Best,
Fabian

[MERGED] Retrieve backups
Hello!
I have a customer with VBO with direct backup to object storage S3.
Has anyway to retrieve all backuped data from the S3?
the intention is to download all the data to a local repository or even move/copy to another bucket in another cloud (s3 browser?).
has anyway to do that?
thanks in advance.

Re: [Feature Request] Object Storage Migration (Migrate Bucket A to Bucket B)
Hi Flavio,
In short: there is no supported migration/copy option today.
Migrating from S3 Object Storage to a local repository (Jet DB) isn’t technically possible. And exporting all backups as the original files or as PSTs is not very efficient.
Some of our partners have used unsupported methods to migrate from one object storage provider/appliance to another. Please review this topic to learn more about those methods. Keep in mind that Veeam Customer Support won’t be able to help if something goes wrong during the copy process and your customer can’t restore from the new bucket, or continue backups from it with their own Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 deployment.
Best,
Fabian

@Veeam why don’t you give us please a supported way to do so, as it is clearly needed?
or you don’t want to because of VDC?

Re: [Feature Request] Object Storage Migration (Migrate Bucket A to Bucket B)
Thats dont work, duplicate data via S3 Browser change etag. The only way it works is if your software allow to Mirror, "Exact" copy incluiding metadata the full object.
It's incredible that after several years of requesting it, we still don't have a paper from the developers explaining the problem.
At the S3 level, you can do a thousand things on-the-fly with LUA scripting.

+1
We are also considering migrating the data to another S3 provider. The dataset is around 500 TB, so this feature would be more than welcome!

We are in the process of migrating to a new S3 array 95% have copied across ok but beware of customer buckets that are using custom tags/metadata as the default rclone / rsync switches did not copy these.
