Office 365 Backup
Hi,
I'm trying to run a backup and keep getting
"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorised"
The account should have the required permissions, it passed the checkboxes and it has the impersonation role? Any ideas?

Hi Daithi,
Are you using a two-factor Microsoft authentification? VBO currently doesn't support it. Please try to set it up with a non 2FA user.

Is there a log or something where we can see additional information? (Definitely not using 2FA for the account.)
Ours was an upgrade from previous version to V2 - now getting the 401 error.

Re: Office 365 Backup
Looks like Sharepoint doesnt think the user exists. Grrrr... Tried to pull up https://company-admin.sharepoint.com and it chokes with this:
We're sorry, but [Service Account] can't be found in the [company]-admin.sharepoint.com directory. Please try again later, while we try to automatically fix this for you.

Hi Adam,
Welcome to Veeam Forums )
It's rather hard to guess without seeing your logs, but likely you might have the similar issue as this one.
Can you try the suggested fix? If it doesn't work, then it'd make sense to create a support call (and, as we usually ask, post its ID and the outcome in this thread).
Thanks!

Re: Office 365 Backup
The workaround got the mailboxes to backup successfully - no luck on any sharepoint tasks.

Re: Office 365 Backup
Adam,
Did you already try to change that user from modern authentication to legacy?
Connect-SPOService -URL https://XXXX-admin.sharepoint.com
Set-SPOTenant -LegacyAuthProtocolsEnabled $True
I believe your case is being investigated by R&D but modern authentication seems to be the issue here

Re: Office 365 Backup
Was there a resolution to this? I am currently configuring Veeam Office365 Backup and running into the same error however I have already enabled legacy authentication on my SharePoint admin site as per the below two settings. I can successfully backup email data, just not OneDrive/SharePoint.
LegacyAuthProtocolsEnabled : True
RequireAcceptingAccountMatchInvitedAccount : False
Current Case ID#: 03350827
Thanks all

Re: Office 365 Backup
Hey CyberPunk,
Our next version will support MFA but the current doesn't. So no resolution for that at this moment. Thanks for posting the support call, keep us up-to-date with what the engineers find. Considering that you have changed the user to legacy, it might be something else which causes SP to fail.

Re: Office 365 Backup
Just to update where I got with this, I left the configuration as is overnight and when I came back in the morning everything was running without errors so it appears after I changed those settings it just took a long time to replicate across my tenancy. Hope this helps someone else out.

Thanks Cyberpunk,
In the meantime, as you might have read, we do have a beta available that supports modern authentication. The details are here: veeam-backup-for-microsoft-office-365-f ... 57218.html

Re: Office 365 Backup
Hi all,
Was there ever an update for this? It won't backup a single mailbox. I've excluded Sharepoint and OneDrive.
Account has the required roles. It passes all the checks for Veeam when adding the tenant.

Re: Office 365 Backup
Hi Daithi,
Did you try to explicitly select mailboxes only when configuring your backup job?
Also, it's worth checking in your SharePoint Admin Center->Access Control that you have "Apps that don't use modern authentication" set to "Allow". And perform the same check in the OneDrive Admin Center.

Re: Office 365 Backup
I had done what all suggested here and it was still failing. What worked was restarting the veeam server. Then everything started working with the same permissions as before. My user is also a member of the sharepoint administrators group that i had to make him to get by some other problem. We dont use 2fa.
