Quick question on user/license usage

Post by Trin »

Hi,

I'm just after some clarification on how licenses are applied to users in an organization...

If we have been backing up a users' email and therefore consuming one license, if that user leaves the organization, at what point does the license become available to be used for another, new user?
How is this triggered / what intervention must we take to make this happen?

If we want to retain their emails for the foreseeable future (retention period allowing), even though they've left, does this still mean they need a license?

Many thanks

Hi Trin,
The license will become available again after 31 days. After those 31 days, the license returns even if you decide to keep the data for a certain time. At that moment a license is not necessary anymore

Hope it helps

Thanks, that's useful.

Presumably that 31 day countdown is triggered when the user is removed from the backup job (regardless of whether they still have an email account in Exchange online or not)?

Thanks

Trin,

It's the 31 days period from the last backup job run.
