Restore mailbox items Older than x date

Post by tacochris »

We recently had a mailbox retention policy mistakenly applied to a user mailbox that deleted items older than 3 years. The retention policy has been removed, and we need to restore the items that were removed by policy.

For example: I do not want to restore the entire mailbox. We just want to restore all items older than March 30, 2019 and leave all other mail as-is in the mailbox.
Looking for guidance on how to do this successfully with or without powershell.

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Is the following doing what you like to do?
1) select the mailbox
2) advanced find
3) category: date/time - Date received - less than 30. March 2019
4) restore

Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks for the suggestion, @HannesK. But, it appears performing the advanced search only works on the current selected folder, not the subfolders of the mailbox.

hmm, I got lost... my understanding was that you want
to restore all items older than March 30, 2019 and leave all other mail as-is in the mailbox.
what kind of subfolder is it about? Do you maybe have a screenshot where advanced find is not working?
