Sharepoint backup timeout

Hi.
We are running Veeam backup for Office 365 version 5.02.42 and have problem with one Sharepoint site not backing up.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

Processing site https://xxx.sharepoint.com/sites/ABC finished with warning: Failed to backup item: /sites/ABC/SiteAssets/A and B Notebook/A and B.one, Download request retry timeout exceeded.

The site is 6Gb and we have also bigger ones with no problem

The root cause of the issue might depend on multiple factors, better to address this problem directly to our support department.
Once done, please share a support case ID number in this thread, so it won't be deleted by the admin.

In both OneDrive and SharePoint, the size of OneNote files saved is officially limited to 2GB. In some cases, this limit can be exceeded in M365 (like in your case), but on the API level this limitation affects backups and such big files may not be processed.

This limitation has been recently added to the VBO tech documentation.

Thanks @polina, sounds like a good explanation. I know the size of the Sharepoint site is 6Gb but I don't know how much of it is OneNote. Is there some easy way to check it?

For me the following works:
Navigate to your site -> Site assets -> the "3 dots" menu -> Details -> More details -> Size

Open the SharePoint site.2Click on Site Actions (gear icon) and then go to Site Settings → Site Collection Administration.3Click on the Storage Metrics page to view a list of all the sites and their sizes.

And one of the files (.one) are over 2Gb

Question regarding this, I have the same issue with some sites, and when I go to the storage metrics it shows that this file is just 4.7MB but Veeam provides me this error.

We are facing the same issue as NN25. We have opened support tickets with Veeam (since the files are below 2GB), and upon investigation, it appears that the problem originates from Microsoft.

When attempting to manually download the .one files in question, the server returns a 503 error.

We have tried moving the file, deleting and restoring it without success.

We have opened a ticket with Microsoft, but progress has been slow.

The only workaround we have found is to retrieve the content of the affected .one file, create a new one with a different name, delete the impacted file, and rename the new file. However, this solution is not sustainable and does not guarantee that the new file won't be affected in the future.

For information, I received an update from Microsoft :

"The patch has been developed, and its deployment is currently underway.

The anticipated coverage for all tenants is until the end of January, but for the client, it may become available earlier, depending on their tenant's position in its schedule.

No further action is expected on our support level."

We have the same issue with OneNote files and support says it is worthy to try reupload the files and if this doesnt help to open a case with MSFT.
Unfortunately, the affected files did not download. The next step would be the support case with MSFT but this seems to be unnecessary, right?

Typically we see the "Download request retry timeout exceeded" on OneDrive objects, but a similar error may occur when backing up OneNote within SharePoint. Affected files cannot be downloaded from the source even manually (obviously, neither can do VB365 for backup). Our support has a hotfix that skips such problematic notebooks from backup, and at the same time, we keep working with Microsoft to further investigate the root cause and find better ways to resolve it.

thanks for the info re. availability of a fix to work around this issue.
According to your support (case #07074742) this hotfix is included in 7.1.0.1401.
Looking at the release notes it doesnt mention anything about this.
to me 1401 looks like 1301 + hotfix for the XML issue + SharingMessage issue.
Can you please confirm that 1401 includes the hotfix/workaround you mentioned yesterday for the download timeout.
if not, what do i have to tell your support to get the infos required?

Hi to all, thanks for the fix, it cleared the problem for us too, but an issue still here about veeam365 backup about the following :
"processing onedrive userxxx (company-my.sharepoint.com/personal/userxxx) finished with warning: Faileds to backup item: /personal/userxxx/documents/Onenote.deletedpages.one, Download request retry timeout excedeed.)
Same issue for multiple users just about differents one note files.
It appeared in the same time that the previous issues, but is not fixed yet.
Am I the only one to notice that ?

You are not alone @quentinb63 we have it also on few users with *.one files. Did not already create a ticket of it. Hoped it would solve itself.

I moved your comment from the XML topic. No need to ask about the OneNote situation there when we have a dedicated topic here.

Please see Polina's answer above. There is a hotfix (obtainable by a support case) to hide the warning/error from the jobs. But it won't solve the issue. We are working together with Microsoft to investigate the situation and to find a solution for solving the issue.

The hotfix for OneNote has not been included in any patch yet, and the answer from your support engineer is misleading. Please get back to support and describe the issue again. From my side, I'll make sure that all engineers are aware of this hotfix.
