Sharepoint-Online change API (CBT alike)

As we are having 7.0.0.4385 now, what is the current status on the planned "change API" to reduce backup times by hopefully orders of magnitude here?
To my knowledge MS had to deliver the API first.

Hey Mike,

That change API will be (normally) in our next major version (at least when it is GA from the MSFT side, which we have good hopes for)
