Should I upgrade to 6a?
I got an email today stating VBO M3654 6a is now GA, but I'm a little confused if I *should* upgrade, or not.
1. Given that we don't care about backing up chats, can we ignore all of the "register an app" stuff?
2. Are there advantages to upgrading to 6a if we're not going to use the new API (to back up chats)?
3. If I upgrade and do NOT upgrade to the new Teams Export APIs, what happens? Will it just continue to work as always, since we're not backing up chats?

Re: Should I upgrade to 6a?
Hi Jim
If you decide to upgrade, you do not have to change anything about how you backup Teams today. The switch to the new Teams API is optional with V6a. There will be a date when Microsoft will disable the method of retrieving Teams messages via EWS.
Currently, the communicated date is January 31st 2023.

Thanks

Yes. We have heard from our customers that we have achieved better performance with 6a. We have also documented the new features and improvements in our article KB for VB365 V6a:2. Are there advantages to upgrading to 6a if we're not going to use the new API (to back up chats)?

Nothing. Teams Messages will continue to be backed up until January 31st 2023.3. If I upgrade and do NOT upgrade to the new Teams Export APIs, what happens? Will it just continue to work as always, since we're not backing up chats?
Thanks

You're welcome.
May I ask, which of this two organization authentication are you using?

- Modern app-only authentication
- Modern authentication with legacy protocols allowed

Re: Should I upgrade to 6a?
OK then the backup after the upgrade works as before. However, if you are upgrading from V5, some new Azure Ad App permissions are required:

You can have VB365 update the application after the update by going through the M365 organization properties again.
Thanks

Re: Should I upgrade to 6a?
Thanks! I think I've already done that since we're already on v6.
