We have been using VBO for over a year now (only backing up Exchange at this point). Every now and then our backup times reduce quite significantly and we end up logging support calls which sometimes resolve the issue for a bit but then comes back again.
We backup just over 6000 mailboxes in a single job and at best, we were seeing this complete in around 14-20 hours. Now it's currently taking that time to only process 300-400 objects. We have tried playing around with the amount of threads used on the proxy and support have made changes to the proxy.xml file, which sometimes make a difference for a period of time.
We do have a VBR environment as well that shares one of it's proxy servers with VBO. So when VBO is running big SOBR offload and backup copy jobs at the same time as a VBO Exchange backup, could that be why our VBO job is running slower? and subsequently why we see some of our copy and offload VBR jobs run slower? The proxy is a powerful machine and the resources are never stretched, but could something behind the scenes not be getting on?
Thanks in advance!
Craig

Re: Slow Exchange backup times
Hi Craig,
For VBO, it'd be better to set up a dedicated proxy. With 2-in-1 and jobs running simultaneously, it seems that VBR and VBO are struggling for resources with each other (even on a powerful machine).
As an option, is it possible for you to schedule different windows for VBO and VBR jobs so that they do not overlap?
