Suggestions for chosing best O365 Backup repository option
Hi All,
I have an azure VM using the server and proxy by default, It is32 GiB of RAM. When I started I had 2 jobs running. 1 per Main mailbox backed daily and other for the Archive mailbox backed on weekends. Both are storage in an Azure blob container. Now I would like to start backing Sharepoint sites. I do not know what would be the best solution to storage my data, I mean, is it better to storage Sharepoint sites in a diffrent blob? I have created a different directory in the same blob with the idea to have it separated from the mailboxes, but don´t know if it is correct. Finally I had to create a different repositiry but extended with the same blob, but different directory within it...
Any advice please? I have been checking the technical guide but I couldn´t find anything.
Sharepoint backups should be running daily? I know it will depends on the needs, but what would be the best to know how often and if create another blob for it would be convenient...
Thank you in advance

Hi Pepe,
Splitting repositories by data type makes sense for the ease of management. It's perfectly fine to create another repository in the same blob but a different directory.
There's also an online Best Practice guide where you can get more hints on how to better design and manage your VBO infractructure: https://bp.veeam.com/vbo
Thanks!

Thans for your reply. I guess that there are several options according the business needs. In the guide you recommend within Object Storage Repository Structure there is already a folder to storage Sharepoint within Organization folder that is called Sites. I am not sure if it is better backup my sharepoint sites there...Since each organization(in my case just one) is kept in its own
folder with a unique identification number.

Re: Suggestions for chosing best O365 Backup repository option
In the User Guide, we provide the default structure that VBO automatically creates in your object storage repository for different types of backed up data. For example, the 'Sites' folder is by default created in your repository if any of the SharePoint sites are included in a backup job, and the 'Mailboxes' folder is created if any mailboxes are being backed up.
When you create a new object storage repository in VBO, you only select a bucket/container and specify a folder that you want to use as a repository. For example, in a single container, you can create multiple folders and each of those folders can become a VBO repository.
In your case, it'd be more of a business decision whether to keep both Exchange and SharePoint data in a single repository (i.e. folder) or split it between different targets. Purely from the technical perspective, both scenarios will work well.
Makes sense?

Re: Suggestions for chosing best O365 Backup repository option
It makes sense Polina. Thank you again for your reply! But for example when I try to choose the repository that´s already created (so I guess the sites backups will storage in "Sites folder" within it), this option warns me with "This location is already in use. Please specify another location". If I create a new repository that point to a new folder within the same blob it runs perfectly.
To storage backups in the same repository I must edit the existing one, doesn´t it?
On the other hand, I have finally storaged the sites backups to another folder(repository). As you said, both scenarios will work well, but in terms of speed, migrations, and so on...Do you know where I could check any advantages and disadvantages of having the storage in separated repositories, each one in a different blob folder, but within the same blob container.
I have less than 500 Users...I do not know whta would be better, have the only proxy that i have pointing to several repositories (more control, granularity ) or just point to the same repository(more efficient searches perhaps...not sure)
Thank you in advance

Re: Suggestions for chosing best O365 Backup repository option
Hi Pepe,
With up to 500 users it's OK to use a single proxy, and considering the future growth, I'd suggest creating separate repositories for each type of data. More hints can be found here: https://bp.veeam.com/vbo/guide/buildcon ... ory-server
As for using an existing repository, there's no need to re-add it. You can simply point several jobs to the same repository.
Thanks!
