Teams with both licensed & unlicensed users
How does backup/restore work for MS Teams with a mixture of licensed & unlicensed users?
Do unlicensed users' contributions to Team chats/files/etc not get backed up so a Team restore will lose these items to licensed users?
If they are backed up, when restored will their contributions be visible again to the unlicensed users?
TIA

Re: Teams with both licensed & unlicensed users
Hi Ian,
Teams licensing will become available later this year when we release v5 which adds Teams support. For now, we work on a user based license model and we will back up exchange, onedrive and sharepoint data (based upon your job configurations).

Ian,
Are you talking about internal users where there is a mix of licensed / unlicensed users (where the unlicensed are non-Veeam licensed) or licensed and external users (guests)?

Re: Teams with both licensed & unlicensed users
With Teams, there is an License called „ Microsoft Teams Exploratory license“
This license is an unpaid license. Something like a trial, but it should be possible to use it with Teams.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/micros ... xploratory
Also, there is a „Free Version of Teams“
I don‘t expect, that veeam will support this, because it‘s not an enterprise solution

Re: Teams with both licensed & unlicensed users
Thanks Mike & others,
Sorry, I wasn't very clear - I meant unlicensed users in terms of VBO licences, not Teams licences. All our staff have MS licences for MS Office 365 & Teams, but we are considering buying VBO licences to protect key Office365 users, maybe not all users. So my question was about how Veeam backup & restore work with Teams data where not all team members are covered by VBO licences.
TIA

Re: Teams with both licensed & unlicensed users
You will be in direct violence with veeam license Agreement, if you are doing a backup of a team (O365 Group/Sharepoint Site) without the proper count of vbo licenses for each internal member of the team. Guest Member do not need a vbo license
Restore will always work with veeam, backup will not (in theory)

@ianbutton1 Mildur is correct. For each team site you will protect, you need to have the users licensed who have access to that team.
