Two VBO365 Servers same source

Post by claudiofolu »

Hello!

is it possible to backup an Office 365 from two differents independent VBO servers? One in one city, and the sencond in another city.
Would it be supported? Do we have to licenses x2?
We need to have two copies of the backups..onpremise, and It seems a better solution rather than backup&replicate the VBO server itself as I read in other posts...

Thank you

Hi Claudio

Yes it is, see this similar post or this one.

I‘m not sure about the license. Both vbo server doesn‘t know about each other. So veeams license server could have an issue if you use the same license on two different vbo servers.

Doing a backup of the first vbo server works much better to me. Microsoft likes throttling you. Doing a backup of the first vbo server with vbr doesn‘t involve the possible throttling microsoft does.
And you could use immutability for the backups with Linux hardened repo or SOBR with a capacity tier.

Hi Claudio,

For two different VB365 serves, you'll need two different license files even if you back up the same organization.

To have a second copy on-premise, you can either follow Mildur's suggestion or upgrade to v6 and use a built-in backup copy functionality to keep copies on a local S3 compatible storage.

Thanks!

Thank you Polina,
Are you absolutly sure that you can use the backup copy new functionality with a local S3 compatible repository?

@claudiofolu

No, you can't. The new backup copy functionality only copies data to low-cost tiers in Azure and AWS (Azure Archive / Glacier / Glacier Deep Archive). We are looking into that for the future but I can't give any ETA at this point in time

Mike is right, and my response about copying to S3 compatible was misleading. I should have had more coffee ))

Is it possible to backup to a local repository on prem and use the integrated backup copy function to copy it to Azure Archive?

Only if your local repository is an S3 Compatible box. For Jet-based repositories, backup copies are not supported.
Copying backup works for primary backup jobs targeted to any object storage repository (Azure Blob, AWS S3, S3 Compatible).
