Unlicensed Mailboxes

Post by Daithi »

Hi all,

Will there be a way to automatically exclude objects that don't have a licence but are still a user account in Office 365?

Hi Daithi,

Just to make sure I understand it correctly, do you mean the objects that don't have an Office 365 license, but still are available to be selected for backup in VBO?

Apologies,

Yes, exactly. We use Azure AD Connect and have some test accounts that don't need an Office 365 licence. These are counted as a user in Veeam. Also some external users are added as users too.

Hey Daithi,

I would think that (even if they are "selectable") they are not counted against the user license count. We only count a license once we have data protected for a user. If they do, and they are even visible in the Veeam explorer for ... after backup, then I think you have found a bug. Is this v2 or v3?

Such users are selectable for backup, however, they cannot be processed and normally jobs will end up with warnings, such as "Exchange account was not found" and "Nothing to process", and without any additional licenses consumed by VBO.

Thanks. I'll exclude these and double check.
