VBO 6 - move to VM

Post by dhayes16 »

Hello All...I hope everyone is well these days. So we have a server running that was running VBO 5 and we recently upgraded to 6 and all is well. It is currently backing up about 100 mailboxes. This was installed on the same server as the VBR server at the physical layer (I know...A no no). We would like to create a VM for VBO 6.0 and move it there (The same for the VBR server as well). The intent is to #1. Get it inline with what seems to be recommended (install to a dedicated VM) and #2) be able to backup the VBO VM and send it to cloud storage via a Backup Copy Job.. This is all Hyper-V so we were thinking the following.

#1) Create Hyper-V hard disk that points to the DAS on the host. Tons available.
#2) Create a Windows server VM and expose the newly created virtual hard drive to the VM.
#3) Copy the contents of the existing VBO Repo to the virtual hard drive we just created.
#4) Load VBO 6.0 and point it to the new location on the VM. (I still need to see how this will be done)

Am I oversimplifying this process? We will also want to do the same thing with the VBR as well at some point.

Please let me know any gotchas that we might need to be concerned about.

Thanks again
Dave

Hi Dave

After you migrated the data, you have to reconfigure the organization and backup jobs.
You can follow our KB article on how to migrate VB365 to a new machine:

Thanks
