VBO and archives
hello all,
I wonders how do you proceed to archive VBO backups.
Currently I backup my MS365 datas OnPremise, but I just can keep 1 year in retention
I need to be capable to restore a mailbox during 5 years. Is there a way to do that without keep 5 years in the retention configuration?
Philippe

Hi Philippe,
VBO does not have any archiving options, and to keep backup data for 5 years, you need to have a repository with the corresponding retention settings.
Thanks!

@Stabz
Are you using S3-compatible storage on-premises or object storage?
If you are using on-premises, then you can use VBR or Veeam agent for Windows to protect the VBO server for a longer period
If you are using object storage, then we have backup copy functionality to lower-cost object storage in the cloud coming in our next version

Re: VBO and archives
Hi,
I'm using a simple disk repository on premises.
But I'm looking for the best solution to have archive if it's possible. I saw the new feature in v6 but it's a backup copy job so if I have in my object storage 2 years of retention I ll have the same in my archive tiers.
A feature to offload data to another repository would be perfect like a SOBR in VBR where we can move old data to object storage.
I considered to backup my VBO server with Veeam Agent and next export this backup for archiving. But If I have to restore an old mailbox I ll have to restore all my VBO server right ? Once my VBO restored I will be able to restore the mailbox.
It's not possible to restore only the files I need.
Regards.

Re: VBO and archives
If you use VBR with a Veeam Agent to backup this VBO Server, then you can use VBR directly todo application item restores from your vbo server. Sharepoint, Onedrive, Teams and Exchange Online.I considered to backup my VBO server with Veeam Agent and next export this backup for archiving. No need to restore the entire VBO server first

Re: VBO and archives
First, make sure, that your Agent Backup Job of the VBO server has application aware processing enabled.
Hannes posted a picture last year how it looks like in vbr when you are trying to restore Items from a VBO365 Backup server backup:
Restore Application Items
You can choose here for whatever service you need to restore your data. For Exchange Online, choose Microsoft Exchange Online Items
After you have clicked on it, you can choose from which restore point you want to restore the data.
Veeam will then open the Veeam Explorer for Exchange the actual restore of the data.
This guide can be followed to restore data to Exchange Online.
