VBO autoupdate - but repository not

Post by m.novelli »

I got VBO 6.x auto updated, but now backup fails with "The repository is out of date and needs to be upgraded"

Where is Quality Control? I will have dozen of customers with this issue in the following days

BTW the Repository Upgrade took about 10 seconds for 1,3 TB of data, so very quick. Should definitely be integrated in the upgrade procedura

Hi Marco

Thanks for the request.
Yes, upgrading is a manual task for now as noted in the release notes.

Dear Mildur, also on the Bible is written that the Earth is 6.000 years old but we all know is something really stupid

So I don't care what is written in the VBO Manual: I care that if Veeam push an auto update it should be really automatic!!!

We can think about it, thanks.
I also recommend to go through our update guides before doing the upgrade.
There could be some important information like new requirements.

Best regards

So do you recommend to disable the Auto Update feature?

You know are you putting yourself in the corner with latest advice?

Hi Marco

The auto update feature only installs critical updates. Critical Updates don't change system requirements or need you to do manual updates after the update.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=60

Upgrading the server to a new major version (4 to 5, 5 to 6, 4 to 6) does involve manual steps and confirmation from your side before doing the upgrade.
As for all products, not only Veeam's, upgrade guides and release notes should be checked before going for a new major version. This helps you to plan for the upgrade and the required downtime. And it protects yourself against any unforeseen side effects.

Thanks

So why the Backup Job failed asking me to update repository after auto-update? Let's back to first post about Quality Control

I read in the other topic, that you have used the ISO. That's not auto-update. Using ISO is a manual upgrade to V6 (V6a).

You have to follow our upgrade guide and do the "after upgrade"-steps after upgrading to a major version.
I provided the link to the guide in the other topic.

Thanks
