VBO Native Direct Backup to Object Storage with Bucket Lock Support

Post by rk@rnt »

Hi All,

We use Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. I would like to know if someone perhaps knows if there will be a potential implementation of a feature within VBO to support native direct backup to object storage with bucket lock functionality for immutability.
Currently, as we have observed with VBR12, this feature significantly enhances operational efficiency by allowing the creation of a single bucket with lock functionality for primary backup purposes. However, we are facing challenges with VBO, as it necessitates the creation of two separate buckets—one without lock for backup and another with lock for backup copies. This bifurcation results in increased storage consumption and operational complexity.
Given the feedback received from several of our esteemed customers regarding these storage concerns, I am keen to understand if there are plans to address this issue through upcoming features or updates to VBO.
Could you kindly provide insights into whether such enhancements are on the development roadmap? Any information or guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello Ridel

I have good news for you. Backup Jobs to immutable object storage will be part of our upcoming version 8.
We are currently having a technical preview (non-production environments) of version 8. Please reach out to your regional Veeam system engineer if you want to try out the technical preview.

Best,
Fabian
