[Feature Request] Veeam Backup for M365 Ransomware Detection

Post by EricinIT »

I'm not sure if this is already on the roadmap for Veeam Backup for M365 or not. I had a customer request to be able to detect which files in a Veeam Backup for M365 restore session were hit with ransomware. Currently, a search by date modified would work to do a restore but it'd return intentionally changed files as well.

Thanks!

Hi Eric

I assume you request is to detect items encrypted by ransomware?
Because Malware is already be detected by Microsoft's own scanner when you backup or try to restore files back to M365.
Built-in virus protection in SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams

Yes, Veeam Backup for M365 will give warnings if a virus is detected and I've seen this in job runs. However, restoring an item from the Explorers, how would you know what items you need to restore that were hit by ransomware?
