I’m happy to announce that the new Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 version 6a (build 6.1.0.222) is now available!

This new version delivers the support for team chats backup via the new Teams Export APIs as well as a number of other new features, performance enhancements, and bug fixes, the most important of which are listed below:
• Support for Microsoft Team chats backup using the new Teams Export APIs
• Built-in User protection report
• Meeting the GDPR requirements with the ability to remove backup data from archive tier repositories
• SharePoint personal sites data restore available for end users via the Restore Portal
• Search by object name in the Retrieve Backup Copy wizard
• Performance enhancements:
- Up to 3x better compression of backup data stored in object storage repositories
- Up to 4.7x faster SharePoint and OneDrive incremental backups
- Up to 4x faster backup of SharePoint and OneDrive items with thousands of versions
- Up to 3.3x faster backup copy, and more
- Up to 10x higher saving rate for SharePoint sites backed up to Jet-based repositories
- Up to 3.3x lower egress costs during backup copy
- Up to 2x faster restore of SharePoint sites with a large number of lists and items
- Up to 15% faster resolving of Teams objects during a backup job
- Up to 10x faster restores of data retrieved from an archive tier repository
- Up to 15x faster export of an Exchange mailbox data retrieved from an archive tier repository

How will we know once Microsoft has approved the protected API?

Microsoft will not inform you when they approve the API for your tenant.
A few weeks ago I put together some commands to check if you have already access to the protected APIs with your application. You don‘t have to update to VB365 V6a to confirm the approval.

In blog posts and KB articles there is a reference to public Teams chat messages. I believe leveraging the Teams Graph Export APIs in v6a will incur costs for all Teams chat messages, not only for public channel messages. Is that correct?

Hi Joeri,

In v6a we continue to only support messages posted in Teams Channels - both with the old method via EWS, and the new via Teams Export APIs. Support for personal 1-2-1 and group chats is on our roadmap for future versions.
May I ask which lines in the KB and blog are referring to non-channel messages?

When we enable the new Teams Export API, will we be charged for only Teams public channel messages or for all Teams messages?

@jveerd1 Only for the Teams public channel messages. The other ones are not yet being protected at this point in time until we have deduplication of the messages, which is foreseen by MSFT in the next 1 or 2 quarters (price would otherwise be very high)

You can do that already since a few version. Are you looking for backup copy jobs to any object storage which is a v7 feature?
