Veeam for M365 copy local repo to Wasabi?
Hello all,
Like the subject says, I have a local disk repo with 6+ years of SharePoint and OneDrive backups on it that I want to copy to Wasabi so it becomes immutable.
Backups to Wasabi are working and I'm writing NEW data from SP and OD to it fine.
I'm new to Veeam M365 (someone else set it up) but familiar with Veeam B&R.
Thanks

Hello Peteski
Backup Copy jobs are possible from backups on Object Storage to another Object Storage repository.
If you have a jet database based repository, you cannot use backup copy jobs.
I assume, this old repository doesn't have an active backup job anymore? Then you can migrate this data to a new empty object storage bucket (must be new!) on Wasabi: https://www.veeam.com/kb3067
Please note, if you still have a backup job running against the local disk repository, it must be stopped until the migration process has finished. Migration may take days depending on the amount of backup size you need to migrate.
Best,
Fabian

Wow Fabian, thanks so much for the detailed reply!
That's what I wanted to do- move the old files from a windows server NTFS drive repo to Wasabi bucket.
One last question, if I may: is there a way to limit bandwidth used so I don't saturate our 1GB internet line during the migration to Wasabi?
thanks again!

Hi Peteski
You're welcome.
VB365 cannot limit bandwidth.
But the migration process is rather slow than fast. With all the internal steps needs to be done, I don't expect that it will use your entire 1Gbit upload throughput. But we are working to optimize the migration performance for each version.
Best,
Fabian

Understood. I will test on a weekend and the data size is modest so hopefully it's either slow enough not to monopolize the internet or small enough that it finishes over a weekend.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Re: Veeam for M365 copy local repo to Wasabi?
Hi umad,
We're currently in the process of migrating all of the M365 backup data from local repos to Wasabi.
The script Mildur provided is what we use as well and it works like a charm. One thing I would add, if it's possible, make sure the source proxy hosting the backup repo has enough resources. We ran into errors during testing the script, mostly something like 'connection lost to the remote host', which ment we needed to run the script again or manually move the last users/teams/sites/groups. But after increasing the vCPU from 8 to 16 and the RAM from 32GB to 64GB, these issues dissapeared.
Like Mildur said, it's slow (although update 7.0.0.3604 increased the Exchange data migration) but it gets the job done. Good luck!

Quick question - when you copied your backup data from the local repo to Wasabi, did you notice any compression at all?
In other words, did your backups take up the same amount of storage in Wasabi?
Thanks.

Re: Veeam for M365 copy local repo to Wasabi?
So I am using this script and used it to successfully migrate our EXO backup and now I'm working on moving OneDrive and Sharepoint backups. The script was crashing on the server with 32 GB of memory so I upped it to 48. It's running better but still throwing out of memory errors. Why is this so memory intensive? If this repository only contains OneDrive data for users, would it run better if I removed the "-Mailbox -ArchiveMailbox" options?
thanks!!
thanks!!

We too use the script Mildur supplied, and it functions well. If it's feasible, I would also add to the list of things to check that the source proxy holding the backup repository has adequate resources.
