What Items MS Teams backup

Hi,

Just wanted to make things clear:

1. What items does the normal backup without using Microsoft export API backup?

2. Once subscribed to Microsoft export API, does Veeam backup all Teams items, including private chat and channel chats messages?

3. If customers subscribed to Export Content with the MS Teams Exports APIs. Would Veeam able to back up those content in MS teams? Like conversation till what extend can be back up?

1. What items does the normal backup without using Microsoft export API backup?

Team Files, Metadata, Channels and membership.
And it's possible that Channel messages, private and group messages are still protected. Till last year, a copy of those messages were stored in the user and M365 group mailboxes. But Microsoft is disabling those copies and access to those two folders. Therefore it is recommended to switch over to the Teams Export API to still be able to protect the channel messages.

2. Once subscribed to Microsoft export API, does Veeam backup all Teams items, including private chat and channel chats messages?

Only channel messages. Private and Group Chats cannot be protected. We need to wait for a new API (deduplication for Teams messages) from Microsoft to protect the customer from high costs:

Only channel messages is protected over the Export API. The other objects are using different APIs (Team Files, Metadata, Channels and membership).

Sorry to piggyback on this, but a point of clarification please. Were one-to-one chats previously captured in the user's hidden mailbox folder as were channel chats? Or have they never been backed up?

Correct. They were protected from those hidden folders. But Microsoft is closing access to this hidden folders over EWS API (started in January 2023). Our product doesn't have access to those folders anymore.
