what's the difference between "site" and "onedrive" backup?

Post by pesos »

Hi all,

We are testing out o365 backup and initially I created three jobs - one for mailboxes/archives, one for "sites" and one for "onedrive." When the "sites" job ran, I noticed that it appeared to be enumerating all onedrive("personal") sites in addition to regular sharepoint sites (and a number of the personal ones threw a weird error "access to this website has been blocked). Is there any difference between a onedrive backup and a sites backup that includes the onedrive personal sites - and if not I guess I should just get rid of my onedrive job?

Thanks!

A personal site is not the same as OneDrive (the path may look the same but it's different underneath). Personal sites can be used within SharePoint as a private matter.
For example:
- You can use it as your own private online office space and virtual ‘assistant’ for storing important documents, contacts and links.
- It can be used for setting up and planning your own workflow across the year and for your own calendar and reminders.

However, OneDrive syncs with your computer and is used a file sharing&storing feature therefor OneDrive backups will not be the same as Personal Site backups.
