what to monitor in VBO Office 365

Post by rtheseeker »

Currently we have a very large environment 25K plus users in Office 365; and approx 10 k would migrate and we have started utilizing VBO; just for Office365 Mailboxes to begin with.
There are many users who are being migrated to Office365 as well; at the moment; we have got few jobs running and capturing the job results.
I wanted to check what is the best way to monitor the backup status and what should we be monitoring
I have worked with a MSP before and most of the customers were small so it was easy for someone to review the warning per job and advise the tenants
however this being a large environments Jobs are configured utilizing dynamic groups and use multiple proxies and repositories (Object storage) and looking at warning for each job is very time consuming

> We have received few backup errors on some users: Processing archive mailbox failed with error: Failed to download some of the items. Failed items count: 1.
plus there are few warnings
> Accounts showing to not a valid office365 license
> Few K accounts showing not having a valid mailbox
so the job warning show a list of all the email addresses (pages long)

Can I assume that Veeam picks up the correct users from Office 365 during every job as they are migrated and can only work on the errors as those seem to be account which have a valid mailbox and license in office365 and for the warnings plan is to just skim thorugh and review those once every 2 weeks to see if there is any other warning and report it to Exchange online team

The end state we want to make sure all the users with active mailbox and license in office365 are getting backed up; we are using dynamic groups just want to make sure nothing fells through the cracks although we do have one backup job that captures everything which is not captured by dynamic groups.

Hello,
To me the vest way to monitor, and report individually on organizations to different tenants about protected objects/unprotected, job status, and much more is using Veeam ONE. Included for free, just need to deploy on a different server, with dedicated SQL, you can start with SQLExpress to see if does fit.

More info: https://www.veeam.com/blog/monitor-micr ... m-one.html

It has even very detailed dashboard for VB365 protection, top notch.

If you are more looking at cutting edge, community oriented, look at this https://grafana.com/grafana/dashboards/ ... osoft-365/

I like Veeam ONE because it is plug and play.

With the protected objects report, you will never miss a mailbox.

Give it a try and let us know, please.

Thanks I did configure Veeam one however the current challange is that we have over 30K users; and the exchange team are migrating users to office 365; I keep getting questions if a mailbox is protected; which I then have to run a mailbox protection report (takes few hours as we have large userbase); is there an easier way to do this; say if I were to give them read only rights(is this option available) to restore portal they can search for recovery points there against a user.
