Backup Azure VM data disk only for specific Read Only retention period?

Hi Veeam Experts,

May I know if Veeam for Azure (free edition) can perform the Monthly backup of Linux Azure VM data disks only?

there are two data disks that are quite big, around 1 TB each, and I need to set the read-only / immutability for 7 years for compliance purpose.

How to achieve this?

Currently there is no API for object lock (immutability) within Azure. So there is no method for immutability at this time.

The current version of Veeam Backup for Azure (v2) can not backup specific volumes on a vm. It would need to backup the vm and all volumes attached.

@dalbertson, so in that case, would it be possible to bring back the backup to OnPremise Tape drive using the Veeam Backup Server v10 ?

I believe with the free edition you wont be able to. Because you will need the plugin in VBR (on prem) to connect to the azure appliance and blob repo to be able to do a copy job back to on prem
