Cleanup backup repository

Post by b.vanhaastrecht »

Hi,

We've had big troubles with upgrading our VBA, we decided to deploy a new one. Then this new one could not continue on the existing backup data, it generated errors. Since we have a small retention we decided to start a new chain but within the same storage account, container and folder. Now we want to cleanup the container and remove the old backup data. How can we determine which folders belong to old/non existing backups?

Structure is like:
{container} / {folder} / Backup / Veeam / Clients / {UUID} / In this folder exists multiple UUID folders which we think represents VBA source VM's.

We cant relate the UUID's towards the source VM's.

Thanks in advance,
Bastiaan

Dear Bastiaan,

If you have imported the same repository, Veeam Backup for Azure will apply to the backups stored in this repository either retention settings saved in the backup metadata or the retention settings configured in a backup policy where this repository is currently specified. This behavior is described in the user guide over here > important notice.

If you do not want to wait until the product automatically removes the old data or the data is not deleted according to any of the specified settings, open a support case to remove the data manually.

Hi, like i wrote, it generated an error that it could not import the existing backup data. The current VBA does not seem to cleanup the old backup data.

Ok, will create a ticket.

Then it looks like a technical issue, please share the case ID once the case is opened so we can follow it.
Thank you!
