S3 Compatible
Is it possible to use Wasabi or a 3rd party storage provider or are we locked into Azure based storage?

Re: S3 Compatible
Within VB for Azure, you can only use Azure Blob as backup repositories.
You can use the VBR integration to create backup copies to other locations like AWS or others.

Re: S3 Compatible
Seth, can you please give us a bit more info on that requirement? Why do you want to store data outside of Azure?

Thank you for replying.
Sure,
Basically, I want to make sure I have a safe backup as far away from the source as possible to ensure its safety.

Re: S3 Compatible
What about restores? They will be quicker if everything is in the same cloud or are you thinking more of a backup copy stored in another cloud?

Re: S3 Compatible
I think a backup copy would be best.
As of now, I've been using Azure Backup for my Azure VMs and it's quick & convenient.
That's great but I'm worried about a larger disaster in the datacenter.
And the big one for me is I'm worried about the entire tenant being compromised, ie: A bad actor manages to get the Global Admin credentials and then takes control of the entire tenant which includes the backups. I would have no recourse and no way to restore anything.
It's kind of like having the onsite backup as well as the air-gapped offsite.
That's my rationale.

Re: S3 Compatible
Ok, this makes total sense. Out of curiosity, do you manage your Veeam backup appliances via Veeam B&R today, right? Just to have a central place to look at policies states.

Re: S3 Compatible
So, is there a configuration or something you recommend to produce the desired result or something close to it?
To answer your question:
Yes, as of now, all of our onprem Veeam backup appliances (vsphere & some baremetal) send to our Cloud Connect server with VAC server associated.

Re: S3 Compatible
If you connect your Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure appliances to Veeam B&R via external repositories, you might already achieve what you want: have a primary backup in the cloud and another copy in another location.

Re: S3 Compatible
Is there a whitepaper or something on this where I can better understand it.
And are there any plans to bring outside storage to Veeam for Azure in the future?

Re: S3 Compatible
Once you have added VBA to VBR, you can use backup copy jobs to copy data from Azure to anywhere you want.
There are currently no plans to add an an external storage target in the short term release cycle for VB for Azure.

Is there a document I can follow that shows me how to add VBA to VBR?

I just want to add, +1 to having more backup copy options for VBfMA to escape cloud vendor lock-in etc.

Re: S3 Compatible
Noted. For now, the answers in this topic are still relevant to "get out of 1 cloud" (VBR + VBA).
