Cloudbased setup

Post by FrankCl2 »

Hi everyone,

Currently we are using Veeam Backup O365 in a client - server based setup.
The situation is best described as this:
- We run a VM on our VMware platform (managed through vCloud Director) on which we run the Veeam Backup server software;
- The customer runs the Veeam Backup Console on his/her (on prem) server/desktop/laptop.

We manage the VM as part of the service and the customer is responsible for configuring and monitoring the backups.

We've had 2 customers who were trying to perform a restore of a mailbox and one of a SharePoint site.
Both of these took ages to succeed, they eventually did, but it took some where between 1-2 days before the SharePoint restore (aprox. 68GB performed on VM #2) to finish.

VM #1 specs:
4 vCPU (2.3GHz)
12GB RAM

VM #2 specs:
2 vCPU (2.3GHz)
8GB RAM

We are baffled by the speed we are currently encountering and are wondering why this is happening. Is the whole setup as it is wrong or ill suited for this task or are we missing something else entirely?

Thanks in advance!

Frank

Hi Frank and welcome to Veeam Forums!

Restore times depend on a variety of aspects, including network speed (console and proxy communication), amount of data, number of items in an object, and so on.
In our lab tests (a sandbox), it took up to 20 minutes to restore 1GB of SharePoint data, which proves your results to be fair enough.

How long did it take to restore a mailbox? and what size was it?
