customer without server

Post by frankive » Mar 20, 2017 2:10 pm

Hi.
I have a customer who doesn't have any server (they are retning from us a virtual server).
They want to use Office 365 backup from Veeam.
Is this possible? can we buy the license separatey?

Frank,

So they are renting a Windows Server running on your environment, and now they want to install VBO on it.

I think it is best that you contact your Veeam Sales rep for this. I would think that the customer buys the license and installs it on the rented server but I am not 100 percent sure in such renting cases.

Sorry
Mike

the actually wants us (service provider) to do this, but as far as I know the VBO is not multi-tenant ready and we are not supposed to deliver it as a service. at least not yet.

Ah, now I understand, they want to rent the service, not the server.

Yes, it is not ready yet but we are having some ideas, we are working on some things but I cannot tell you much more at this point in time. I am however interested what you believe that VBO would need (apart from licensing ;-)) to be a good solution for you to offer

Thanks

but as long as they are renting av vps, they could install the software on it, correct?
even if it is a domain controller 2012 r2?

Well,

I certainly wouldn't install it on a domain controller to be honest. DC's don't like to have additional software on it ;-)

But yes, although not tested, I believe you can install it on that server and they could start backing up their O365 emails. But as I said, we are working on a better way for VCSP's to deliver this type of service

Lol, consider that done ;-)

I'm sure the moment we start this beta we will make a lot of noise around it so you won't be able to miss it :-D

we have received the pricing for rental purpose from our distrubutor.
It is ok from a license perspective to f.ex. install VBO in a VM and connect to the tenants we want to backup?
Is there any rule that says a customer can not share the same VOB installation?

Technically there is nothing that will prevent you from that. Besides the fact that both users will be in the same repository database and not isolated from each other.

For your licensing rule. I am not sure. Let me try to find someone who knows better about the licensing SKU's. I well let you know once I figure it out

Thanks

Great :) it is ok to share repository since we are in control and not the customer directly.
Hopefully this can be an ok solution until we get a more hard-core serivce provider implemenation.
Customers safety first.. after licensing of course :)

The only issue I see in your scenario Frank, is if you need to hand off the database directly to a customer, you would need to split customers in two installs, or have first an export/restore of data to a dedicated archive before the hand-off.
