Feature Request - Retention logic

Post by masonit » Feb 28, 2017 2:37 pm 2 people like this post

Hi

Would like to see a retention that is based on when data is deleted instead of when data is created. "Normal" backupretention where all active data is protected and deleted data is removed from backupdata according to retention.

Magnus,

Actually, the retention for emails (when it comes to examples such as litigation hold or similar) is based on the creation date and not on the deleted date. VBO is a bit different than VBR since this works with a running database. That said, I do understand your question and we will have a discussion internally on this to see what we can do. But as I said, especially when it comes to email, this is normally looked at from the creation date.

Hi,

I agree with Magus and Robvil.

I am not sure how to explain to costumers that you have to create backups of your O365 data because its your data, but btw we cant take backup of everything. Only the new stuff.
The present retention method also prevents us in re-creating an entire mailbox.

Apparently this request didn't get into V. 1.5.
Is there any signs about this would be possible in the next version ?
Have nice day,
Henrik

Henrik,

No plans at this moment for this. It certainly isn't off the discussion table but it would require a complete different approach to our repository
