Hybrid Office 365 backup question

Post by zx81 » May 23, 2018 5:34 am

We currently have a hybrid on-premises Exchange/Office 365 mail setup. We backup the on-prem VM stuff using normal Veeam Backup. The Office 365 cloud part isn't backed up and I need to fix this.

The question is: Do I need to setup Veeam for O365 in hybrid mode and backup both on-prem and cloud, or can we just backup the O365 cloud stuff using Veeam for O365 and keep the existing Veeam VM backups for the on-prem stuff?

We'll be migrating completely to O365 cloud and so I'd like to avoid having to build the new backup system to support the on-prem stuff given that it's going away soon and is already backed up.

Hi Don,

You can leave the VM stuff as you do today and backup only those that are in the cloud with VBO. This will make it easier for you to migrate completely.

Hope it helps
Mike

PS: Forgot to say: Make VBO a virtual machine, then you will be able to protect that VM also with VBR which will give you easily 3-2-1 possibilities.

Thanks for the quick response Mike. :)

I plan to make the VBO virtual and back that up.
