1. Issue with Tenant configuration; 2. Large initial backups

Post by _james »

Hello,

As title says i'm interested in configuring tenants for Veeam Backup for MS O365. I am testing it out - I have a deployed 2 VMs with installed Veeam Backup for O365, where one should act as a Service Provider (connected to the tenants O365, with active backup jobs etc) and the other as a Tenant (client). How do I configure the tenant appliance to connect to the Service provider so that Self Recovery can be done? If I understand documentation correctly - Service Provider should issue a certificate for the client. But I don't see where that can be done from the UI. Is other Veeam tool needed for that?

Other question is about the initial backups - Lets say, for example, that I have a enterprise company with a couple hundred users that sum up to a 2-3TB of data that needs to backed up. What is the limiting factor in this deployment, what will cause the most issues? From the bandwith side of the things - with lets say 100Mbit connection speed it will take a week to back up. Do I group my users to split my backups? My concern is - what if something goes wrong. Is the application intelligent enough to start where it left (due error etc.)?

1) If you want to offer self-service there are 2 options:
- You leverage the built-in API and provide a web-based portal (an example can be found on GitHub)
- You leverage a Veeam Cloud Connect instance (which is VBR with a Cloud Connect license) and you install VBO on top of it so customers can connect to it via the Veeam Explorer (this is explained in our userguide

2) If your backup fails for some reason, we will continue based upon the last successful point. There is no need to transfer everything again. Usually, the limiting factor is bandwidth and not so much the amount of data. While we do improve the logic with every update, bandwidth is always a risk. In the case of SharePoint and OneDrive, make sure you test the v3 beta as we've made major enhancements in terms of backing up these 2.

Thank you very much for your answer. Made it a lot clearer for me. However I am stuck at Cloud Gateway section. Where trial or similar Cloud Connect license can be obtained (Enterprise Plus trial doesnt seem to work)? (We are registered at the partner portal and account has been approved by Veeam).

You'll have to contact your local Veeam sales team and work with them if you want to become a VCSP and acquire a license. We can't do this via the forums.
