new feature request - parallel mailbox backup

Post by pnikies » Oct 19, 2017 1:31 pm

Hello,
Thanks for your great product,
Just one question, first backup (full) is very slow with big mailboxes (2/3 hours per big mailbox and we may have hundreds of mailbox to backup)
Bandwidth is not a problem, we have 300Mb/sec and VBR doesn't not use all the bandwidth.
So I think it would be possible to optimize backup time by parallelizing mailbox backup.

For exemple on-premise when we import multiple mailbox to a PSP we run 3/4 scripts at the same time.
Exchange engine is able to manage this.

Thanks for your answer.

Hi Roman,

Are you running 1.5?

We do paralleling but it is based on threads. (See here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=15). A thread does not mean it is 1 thread per mailbox. It is based on folders. The thing about exchange online is that mailboxes can get "heated" which means that there are too many requests for that specific mailbox. What we do is then let it "cool down" again and go for the next mailbox. So the best you can do is experiment with those threads and put them higher, and make sure you have enough mailboxes in the job so that there are enough "cool ones" at all times

Hope it helps
Mike

Thanks for your answer, it's perfectly clear.
I did not see thread setting on proxy

No worries.

Let me know if you see improvements when working with it

Thanks
Mike
PS: There is a way to also change the throttling from MSFT, but you can only do that through a support call with MFST
