The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request.

Post by dan.kennedy »

We are getting a warning for a single user's OneDrive backup:

Processing OneDrive (https://xxxxxxx-my.sharepoint.com/personal/xxxxxxx_com) finished with warning: Failed to backup item: , The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request.

This warning has been happening since we set the job up - it only affects this one user.
I've logged into OneDrive with our admin account and all the permissions seem fine. They do not use MFA at this organisation so that is not the cause.

Has anyone else come across this error and managed to resolve?

We are running version 2.0.0.814

Hello Dan,
first of all, welcome to the forums.

I have seen that you uploaded the logs just a few minutes ago, so I suggest to wait for an answer from support what's wrong with that one user.

Best regards,
Hannes

Dan,

Do you know if this user has ever logged in to their OneDrive? If not, this might be the root cause.

Hi Polina,

Yes, the user has a few GB of data in there and they use it quite regularly.

Dan

Error 400 usually (not always) means the URL we request and receive is malformed in a way. Best would be to let support handle this for now as it could be an issue with the specific file/folder or pathname.

Just in case anyone else comes across this - the issue for us was caused by a single XML file in the user's OneDrive that Microsoft had flagged as malware (it had a red shield with a little x beside it when viewing his files in the portal).

Once i got the user to remove this file from his OneDrive the backup went through without warnings.

Dan

We got the same issue, user deleted it and now the problem exists in /PreservationHoldLibrary/ and user cant delete it cause og the setting set in O365 Policy.
i gues this is the reson;:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office ... protection
i think i'll have to open a supportcase with MS and make them delete the file (s)

We are running O365 v3.0

Tommy,

We indeed get errors when a file (or files) are flagged. This is something that MSFT has created as a security. We are thinking on how to work around this, however, since we can't query the state, we are not always certain that the bad request effectively is a malware issue. Something we need to figure out :-)

Are there any updates on this as I have a customer with the same issue as Tommy.lidal mention.

Hi Karsten,

As the file is blocked by Microsoft antivirus, the only option is still to delete it from the source.
