How does licensing work when backing up MS teams/Planner Sharepoint sites?

Is there a built-in way to only backup users that are a member of a specific group or can that be done via powershell?

I'm trying to work out how to automate selection of users to be backed up rather than it being a manual selection process.

VBO licensing works on a per-user basis as explained in the documetation.

You can back up specific users, groups or sites and also set exclusions if needed; see more here.

PowerShell automation is also an option.
