SharePoint site, time stamp and modified by were not preserved when site content is restored

Post by mboimoil@midrange.ca »

Support Case #03789718

When restoring a SharePoint site, time stamp and modified by were not preserved when site content is restored – should the modified time stamp and modified by be restored to what was on the backup date or to the date the Site is restored? Not sure if this is by design.

If you restore something they should preserve these. If this is not what you are seeing, best would be to work via support as you've made a case already. Thanks!

This is what I got back from Support....

Hello Michael,

The date and time modified for the restored Sharepoint items would be the date and time the site was restored since Veeam doesn't have the ability to modify that information.

Hi Michael,

We can indeed not change the time stamp to the original one. With SharePoint online (and others) you cannot "restore" as it is known in the on-premises world with a VM. We need to upload the file to the destination again, and SP online believes it is a new file that is being added. This is the way those connectors from MSFT are designed.

Hope it helps in understanding this

FYI, in the meantime, this has changed. Timestamp is restored as was during the backup. A while ago this has been added to the MFST API of adding items to a list/ item.
