backup target

Post by lowlander »

Hi,

is it possible to store the backups on an immutable backup target, or copy the backups (data and meta data) to an immutable backup target within the solution ?

If not what are the best practices in protecting a VBfS environment / backups deployed in the cloud / onprem ?

The product currently does not offer any immutable targets on primary or copy. I hope we can deliver this in a few iterations.

I'm not a big expert in this topic, but you can protect VBSF database and local repositories with Veeam Backup & Replication and have it immutable. That would help you in case of ransomware/crypto attacks, intentional or unintentional deletions.

If you are in AWS, I think you can leverage EBS for files and metadata, and lock snapshots https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/late ... -lock.html
You can consider RDS snapshots and tighten on permission for deletion of those.

On-prem you would probably look into copy-on-write filesystems, btrfs.

Hope this helps

Maybe the use of a linux agent would help in a cloud environment to write the backup of the linux server that hosts Postgress SQL / Management server.
