2012/2012R2 Dedup Data Restore

Post by ijefferson »

Hi

Wonder if someone can clarify something for me.

I have Veeam currently installed on Server 2012 and moved it across to that server when I commisioned my 2012 File Server with Deduplication enabled.

I'm now about to create a new 2012 R2 file server, do I also need to upgrade/move Veeam onto a 2012R2 server and if I do so, will Veeam be able to restore both the 2012 and 2012R2 servers from that?

I suspect the answer is Yes to the move but not sure on the second part.

Is it recommended to build a new VM up for Veeam to sit on and migrate it across or am I safe enough just doing an inplace Upgrade of the server?

Thanks

You need to upgrade mount server to Windows Server 2012 R2 to guarantee file-level restore.

Correct.

In-place upgrade is enough. Though, backup at least server configuration prior to doing that.

Thanks.
