Hi all,
i need to make a remote Backup Repository Server for some 2012R2 VM with deduplication active, i find a cheap HP machine with 8Gb ram , 4 core and windows 2012r2 foundation.
The deduplication is active on the source VM's, i not need to enable it on the repository server,
Can someone confirm Foundation release is compatibile for Backup Repository Server Rule and 2012R2 deduplication compatible ? i think yes but i not know well the Foundation release of 2012R2

Re: 2012R2 FOUNDATION as Backup Repository Server
Hi,
You can install repository role onto 2012R2 foundation, however dedupe feature is available only for Standard and Datacenter editions.
Thanks

Re: 2012R2 FOUNDATION as Backup Repository Server
thanks PTide,
ok i can install but dedupe file from VM's are saved/managed i hope... i mean... times ago for manage deduped file from backup the server need to have dedupe option acivated (not enforced but installed).
If foundation did not have dedupe option... it can be used as Backup Repository Server for "deduped files " ?

Re: 2012R2 FOUNDATION as Backup Repository Server
It can be used for deduped files, however for FLR to work you need to choose another Windows server that supports deduplication so the guest OS file system can be mounted properly. If foundation did not have dedupe option... it can be used as Backup Repository Server for "deduped files " ?
Thanks

Re: 2012R2 FOUNDATION as Backup Repository Server
Keep in mind, that enabling dedupe inside guest OS seriously affects the number of changed blocks inside VM and Veeam B&R image-level processing has to copy much more than the estimated data change rate inside guest OS.
