365 email test passes but backups can't deliver email

Running version B&R 12.2
Changed to 365 email service and setup a site connector (so no authentication required for relaying emails).

When we test the new email server settings in B&R the emails get delivered fine but the backup jobs report "Unable to connect to SMTP server because of invalid credentials or connection settings."

Has anybody experienced this? Which log files should I look at to get more info? So far I have only found that error message but no further explanation as to how it is failing.

What is it about technical issues? You spend hours looking at them and trying to sort them and as soon as you post about the issue online, you find the solution!

It was an outgoing firewall problem. It is a different Veeam program that sends the test emails (which was allowed WAN access) to that that sends the backup reports (which was blocked from WAN access).

I'm glad you could solve the issue with the mail delivery.
For future readers, the log file for SMTP testing should be this one:
