9.5U3 SOBR free space limit

Post by thomas321 »

Hi,

how can I specify a percentage of how much free space I want to have as a minimum on a SOBR extent?
I'd like to have 10% per extend always available as free space.

Thanks!

Hey T,

Can you elaborate why do you want to keep 10% of free space per extent? Thanks!

Lets assume you have 3x 100TB extends and monitor each to alert when they are low on free space (10%).
That would give us enough time to get a 4th extend ready.

If the "normal" behaviour is 2% free space and we alert when hitting 1% then we probably don't have enough time to react.
Also it is always good to have a little bit free space in cases we need to restore/copy a recent backup file from another extend which is maybe about to fail, etc.

couldn't you just allow for that when you format the volume? Extend as necessary if required?

Yes, this might be a solution (shrinking and extending the volume on demand). One of our service provides used this technique as a workaround of setting a threshold.

Then you can use repository space notifications. The default value is 10%.
