[Feature Request] Ability to Specify Disk Type (Agent Restore into AHV)

Post by GilesEadon »

This is a feature request.

As an MSP we host customers in our cloud environment based on Nutanix AHV.
Sometimes, when onboarding existing on-prem customer VMs, we do not have access to the on-prem hypervisor or it is too old.
In this scenario we backup the VMs using Veeam Agent into our Cloud Connect environment then restore them using B&R into our AHV environment.

The issue...

When restoring using Instant Restore, the disks are specified as SATA, we have noticed some Windows Server VMs that this causing a BSOD (Nutanix VirtIO drivers are installed in the OS).

Currently we can work around this using two methods...

1. Back the VMs up using Veeam Agent, then doing a full restore into our AHV environment, cloning the disk and specifying SCSI as the disk type.
2. Using bootable media created inside the VM and creating a new VM with SCSI disks in Nutanix then booting from ISO and restore from Cloud Connect.

The above methods are time consuming and I would like the ability to specify the disk type (SCSI, IDE, SATA, PCI) on restore, if we could select SCSI, we could do instant restores that would massively speed up the process.

Hello,
it's a bit hidden, but the bus type selection order can be changed in the recently released version 5: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbahv ... tml?ver=50

Best regards,
Hannes
