Active Full - Copy Job - All data or not?

Post by evander »

Hi, simple question that I cant definitely find an answer too:

I have a large copy job that is giving some problems and I want to start an Active Full as first troubleshooting step but this job is not the smallest 32TB (single VM, single job).

If I manually start an Active Full will it transfer ALL the data from source to destination? I do not want to push 32TB over my WAN link for obvious reasons. The repo is running ReFS and normally works well but now is failing and giving problems with fast clone completion and error of "Transmission pipeline hanged, aborting process"

The Veeam manual mentions the following around creating Active Fulls: "...Veeam Backup & Replication will start a new backup copy session, copy data from the source backup repository and save it in a full backup file in the target backup repository"

What's not clear to me is if this is equivalent to a first-run backup copy job where it copies all data or if it will copy all data since the last full. I have GFS setup on this copy job so there are a few full vbk's already in the destination repo

Note: I do NOT have the check box selected that says "Read the entire restore point from source instead of synthesizing it from increments" but not sure if this selection is moot when choosing to do a manual Active Full or not?

Thoughts and suggestions please?

Active Full is equivalent to the very first job run so the entire VM data will be copied from the source (regardless of the "Read the entire..." check box is enabled or not).

Thanks Foggy, that's what I suspected and was worried about.
I reckon I will probably have to open a support case for them to have a look at this job then.

Thanks for the help.
